Dr. Jeb McAviney, founder and CEO of ScoliCare, first started our online Symposium back in 2020, at the height of the pandemic. When the world was locked away, he didn’t want
health professionals’ education to be jeopardised. Dr. Jeb contacted scoliosis leaders from across the globe to present updates in scoliosis and hyperkyphosis in an interactive symposium. The event was a huge success, so we decided to bring it back again the following year.
ScoliCare’s 3rd Symposium has an impressive lineup of scoliosis experts presenting on important issues in scoliosis.
Sagittal Balance in Scoliosis
The importance of the sagittal profile, and in particular sagittal balance, cannot be underestimated.
There will be 3 presentations in this section starting with Dr. Jeb McAviney who will provide an update on sagittal balance in scoliosis. This will be followed by Dr. T Foster Bryant (Head Clinician, ScoliCare Naples) who will share real case studies on adult spinal deformity and the sagittal plane. Finally Dr. Juan du Plessis (Senior Scoliosis Clinician, ScoliCare) will share his expertise on bracing for hyperkyphoisis.
Scoliosis Research
At ScoliCare, we keep up to date with all of the latest research, whilst also conducting our own. This is your chance to hear the latest worldwide research on scoliosis
Dr. Jean Theroux (Clinical Lecturer, Murdoch University) will be giving a worldwide research update. Dr. Ben Brown (Research and Clinical Consultant, ScoliCare) will provide an insight into the exciting research being undertaken by the research team at ScoliCare.
Scoliosis Specific Rehabilitation & Scoliosis and Sport
Does scoliosis specific rehabilitation work? What is ScoliBalance? Can patients include sport in their treatment? In this section of the Symposium, we cover these frequently asked questions by health professionals.
Rosemary Marchese (Head of Education and Research, ScoliCare) will introduce you to ScoliBalance® , a physiotherapeutic scoliosis specific exercise (PSSE) program to treat scoliosis in children, adolescents and adults. Rose will also provide an insight into the ScoliBalance certification program. Dr. Juan du Plessis will join us again to present on combining ScoliBalance and bracing. ScoliBalance Provider Louise Ings, will share with you a clinical case study on how she achieves great outcomes with a ScoliBalance program. Dr. Fabio Zaina (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Specialist) will join us from Italy to give an update on sport, rehabilitation and scoliosis.
Neuromuscular Scoliosis and Suspension Brace
Neuromuscular scoliosis is one of three main types of scoliosis. The suspension brace is commonly used for this type of scoliosis.
Dr. Jeb McAviney will give us a better understanding of neuromuscular scoliosis and the suspension brace history. Dr. Brad Gage, Chiropractor (Canada) and Dr. Paul Irvine, Chiropractor (UK) will both present a suspension brace case study.
Complex Issues in Scoliosis
As health professionals, many of us have come across clinical cases that have been perplexing. We all have different techniques and ideas of treatment. We asked a variety of health professionals to present their cases.
Dr. Vinay Kulkarni (Orthopaedic Surgeon), and Dr. Tony Betts (Physiotherapist) will present complex case studies and share the challenges, and strategies for problem solving.
Finally, Dr. Jeb McAviney will conduct a panel discussion with world experts in managing a complex scoliosis case.This will be a unique opportunity to watch a live interaction between various health professionals, who will share ideas, and perhaps debate, the management of a complex scoliosis case study. You will be able to watch live Dr. Juan du Plessis (Chiropractor), Dr. Tony Betts (Physiotherapist) and Daniel Firth (Orthotist) each explain how they would treat this patient who they have never seen before! Dr. Jeb will then explain how the case was actually treated and the outcomes will be discussed by the panel.
And, of course questions from the audience will be encouraged!
