The First Appointment
This is the start of the treatment journey.
It’s natural to be a little nervous, so please ask any and all questions that come to mind. We also encourage you to look through all of the resources on our website and in this portal before your first appointment.
On the day of your appointment, you will meet with your Scoliosis Clinician. The clinician will discuss your health concerns, go through your medical history and discuss any X-rays, scans or tests you’ve had. In some cases, it may be necessary to send you for additional X-rays. The clinician will also perform a thorough physical examination, which may include taking postural photos and a 3D scan.
The video below provides an introduction to what you can expect at the first appointment.
The clinician will discuss your treatment options and management plan in detail. Our focus is on accurate analysis and correct diagnosis to enable us to recommend the right treatment, at the right time.
Depending on the recommendations, your clinician will discuss with you the timeline of care, appointment schedule and next steps.
Don’t worry if you forget to ask something, there’s lots of information to take in. You can always contact us for a chat later if needed.
The team at ScoliCare is here to support you through this appointment and beyond.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to bring to the first appointment?
Please remember to:
- Bring any previous X-rays, MRI’s or medical reports etc. with you
- Wear comfortable clothing, including a sports bra and shorts/leggings for females, and shorts for males
- Bring a Medicare card in case new X-rays are required on the day
Will Medicare or my private health fund cover the cost of the consultation?
As a private clinic we require patients to pay full-fee on the day. We recommend checking Medicare and private health fund eligibility prior to your first appointment with us.
You may be able to claim a rebate back from Medicare or your private health fund after your appointment. Due to the varied nature of Medicare and health funds, ScoliCare can only provide patients with a receipt and cannot assist with any external claim processes (E.g. Filling out forms).
How do I claim a rebate from Medicare?
Patients should visit their GP to obtain an ‘Allied Health Care Plan’ (sometimes known as an ‘EPC’). This must be done before your ScoliCare appointment.
If eligible, you can claim a rebate back from Medicare depending on the clinician or rehabiliation therapist you have seen (Chiropractor, Osteopath, Exercise Physiologist). Medicare does not cover sessions with our Orthotist.
How do I claim a rebate from my private health fund?
Patients should contact their private insurer prior to their ScoliCare visit to determine rebate eligibility and the rebate claiming process.
What if I need to cancel the appointment?
How do I find the clinic?
Our team will have sent you an email in the lead up to your initial consulation. This email will have included a map and details about the location of the clinic you are visiting.
Our clinics location details are also listed on this page should you need to find them online.
Can I bring someone with me to the first appointment?
Of course, you’re more than welcome to bring a friend or relative with you to the appointment.
