Managing Adolescent Scheuermann’s Hyperkyphosis with KyphoBrace™ and ScoliBalance®
At 14 years old, the patient visited the ScoliCare clinic after a recent diagnosis of Scheuermann’s Hyperkyphosis. She had been experiencing some pain when seated for long durations, had started to notice a change in her posture and was worried about the condition progressing.
An X-ray taken showed a hyperkyphosis measurement of 77°. The patient was prescribed a full-time KyphoBrace™ and ScoliBalance® treatment protocol to stop progression and potentially improve the magnitude of the curve.
In-Brace Correction: One month after bracing, her hyperkyphosis reduced from 77° to 61° (21% reduction) on the in-brace X-ray.
Reduction of Hyperkyphosis: After completing 2.5 years of KyphoBrace™ treatment, out-of-brace X-rays showed a further reduction of the hyperkyphosis to 40°, a 37° (48%) reduction overall. 4 years after treatment (at 6 year follow up) the patient remained stable at 42°.
Improved Function and Pain Relief: Her posture and pain greatly improved, and she is now pain-free.
