Interview with Scoliosis Rehabilitation Therapist, Danielle

Danielle is a Scoliosis Rehabilitation Therapist who looks after patients at our ScoliCare Denver Clinic.

What attracted you to your role at ScoliCare?

I have always had a passion for rehabilitation and helping people through the process of recovery and an improved quality of life. After completing my Master’s degree I knew I wanted to find an area of study to specialize in that would allow me to work with people on improving their quality of life, mobility, and fitness. Once I found ScoliCare I knew it was what I was looking for and something that was interesting to me where I could make a difference. I was impressed with the environment, level of care, and professionalism that ScoliCare offered for their patients.

What have been some of the common challenges you have seen in patients with scoliosis?

The most common challenges I have seen between patients with scoliosis are the frustrations with their condition, and the lack of information and care they have been able to receive for it. In adults in particular, they have been living and possibly struggling with this condition for a long time and haven’t been able to find the care they need to be able to live the way they want to. This leads to the common challenge of a decreased ability to perform their daily tasks and reduced joy in life.

Explain how you help patients to overcome these challenges.

At ScoliCare we provide the best non-surgical solutions for scoliosis. I implement an individualized scoliosis specific exercise program (ScoliBalance) to help slow the progression of the curve and teach the patient how to put their body in better positioning. This helps alleviate the pain they can be experiencing. I also work with them on performing their daily tasks with their body in a corrected position to help them progress with their program and be able to complete more without pain. We address concerns around the condition and work with them towards improving their way of life when living with scoliosis.

Why did you decide to work in the area of scoliosis?

I have always had an interest and a passion for rehabilitation and helping people decrease their pain and improve quality of life. I have seen how complicated this condition can be, and there hasn’t been many options for these patients outside of surgery. I like how ScoliCare bridges that gap and provides patients with a more achievable option outside of surgery to treat and help with the diagnosis of scoliosis. I knew this was the best route to have the biggest impact on a prevalent diagnosis.
