Treatment of an Infantile Scoliosis with ScoliBrace® and ScoliBalance®

At age 3, the patient presented with a 40° thoracolumbar curve and a mild 10° compensatory curve. The family doctor had previously diagnosed her with infantile scoliosis and referred her to an orthopaedic surgeon, who recommended bracing. Initially fitted with a hospital-made rigid TLSO, in-brace X-rays showed only a small improvement to 33°, prompting the family to seek a second opinion.

She was prescribed a custom, over-corrective ScoliBrace® for full-time wear, along with a modified home-based ScoliBalance® program.

Results

In-Brace Correction: In-brace X-rays at the initial brace fitting showed complete curve correction.

24-Month Treatment: Curve reduced from 40° to 14° out of brace (65% reduction).

Postural Improvement: Significant reduction in trunk shift and improved alignment.

Regular monitoring and follow-up appointments will continue to ensure the curve remains stable, with brace adjustments made as needed to support the child’s growth.

NB: Results vary from case to case. Our commitment is to recommend the most appropriate treatment based on the patients type and severity of scoliosis.
