Correction of Severe Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Using ScoliBrace® and ScoliBalance®

At age 12, the patient presented to the ScoliCare clinic with a 43° right thoracic scoliosis, and was diagnosed with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS). The patient was a young active male that enjoyed swimming and soccer and was worried about his scoliosis stopping him from engaging in these activities. The patient and his family had noticed a significant change in his posture, and were concerned that the scoliosis would get worse. X-rays taken 2 months earlier, showed his curve had progressed from 37° in just two months without treatment.

He was prescribed a full-time ScoliBrace® protocol combined with the ScoliBalance® rehabilitation program.

Results

Short-Term Results: Within 18 months of treatment using the ScoliBrace, the curve had reduced from 43° down to 28° out of brace (35% reduction).

Improved Function and Posture: His posture greatly improved, and he was able to continue to engage in his sport activities throughout and following the treatment.

Curve Stabilization: At the patient’s 5 year follow-up, his curve has stabilised at 30°. This result was gathered following 2 years out of the brace.

NB: Results vary from case to case. Our commitment is to recommend the most appropriate treatment based on the patients type and severity of scoliosis.
