Gabrielle is a Scoliosis Rehabilitation Provider who looks after patients in our ScoliCare Melbourne Clinic.
- What attracted you to your role at ScoliCare? or Why did you decide to work in the area of scoliosis?
As an Exercise Physiologist I have always been interested in exercise intervention in chronic condition management. I have previously worked with spinal cord injuries and I have always had an interest in the spine. The spine gives the body structure, support, and connection to the rest of the body and protects the spinal cord. Prior to working at ScoliCare I had heard about ScoliCare’s effective bracing and rehabilitation methods, and specifically that it did not only focus on improving spinal alignment! So I was very interested and intrigued by the ScoliBalance method.
- What have been some of the common challenges you have seen in patients with scoliosis?
Maintaining the rehabilitation routine can be challenging for some patients so we work hard on that.
- Explain how you help patients to overcome these challenges.
Similar to the generally healthy population, of course maintaining an exercise routine can be challenging. It is important to make sure patients’ goals are individualised. Educating the children, and not just the parents, about ScoliBalance protocol and the importance of rehabilitation elements is really important. We focus on providing education around each element of the rehabilitation and individualising the importance of it all to them and their spine.
- Why did you decide to work in the area of scoliosis?
As an Exercise Physiologist we provide ongoing education, support and guidance to improve chronic health and wellbeing. I relish this challenge and gain great self satisfaction in seeing patients goals be achieved, and their physical and mental health improve over time. I have seen in the past, working in private practice, clients being prescribed exercise prescription for scoliosis and it just simply didn’t get the results that I have seen here at ScoliCare. I have been motivated by my training here to improve my practice and understanding of Scoliosis so I can better help others.
