In other cases, surgical consultation may be recommended prior to starting a non-surgical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gbp-section__text gb-text-906d022c P2-Regular\">The main reasons to consider a scoliosis surgery are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list c_list_set\">\n<li>When a scoliosis curve is large and surgical intervention is required to stop it progressing further.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When the patient is very concerned about how they look because of the scoliosis, and correction cannot be acheived non-surgically<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In severe cases to preserve lung function.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gbp-section__text gb-text-65729028 P2-Regular\">Surgeons assess the patient and their X-rays, CT or MRI scans. Scoliosis surgery often involves fusing the bones of the spine or rods might be inserted to hold the spine straight. New approaches such as tethering also may be an option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gbp-section__text gb-text-40561d6c P2-Regular\">ScoliCare\u2019s approach to finding the best scoliosis treatment for each patient is to start with accurate assessment, and then to discuss treatment options with patients and their family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We work with scoliosis surgeons to co-manage surgical cases, and will recommend surgical referral where appropriate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"gbp-section gb-element-52da04f2\">\n<div class=\"gbp-section__inner gb-element-696737e2\">\n<div class=\"gb-element-87c1efb8\">\n<h2 class=\"gb-text gbp-section__headline gb-text-e17fee37\">Preventing or Delaying Surgery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gbp-section__text gb-text-f8b42593 P2-Regular\">While surgery may be the best option for some cases, it is also possible in some cases to prevent or delay scoliosis surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gbp-section__text gb-text-cbb1728d P2-Regular\">Delaying surgery is often considered for children and teens who are still growing. Because scoliosis surgery stops spinal growth, allowing a young patient to reach closer to their full height before operating is ideal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gbp-section__text gb-text-4181a010 P2-Regular\"><a href=\"\/seattle-washington\/patients-scoliosis-bracing\/patients-adolescent-scoliosis-bracing\/\">Scoliosis bracing<\/a>&nbsp;has been shown to be effective in preventing most progressive adolescent cases from needing surgery[1].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gbp-section__text gb-text-4ed3a84a P2-Regular\">In larger curves or highly progressive cases where surgery is already indicated, bracing can help stabilise the curve while the spine continues to grow. Once growth is complete, surgery can be performed to reduce the curve and restore alignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gbp-section__text gb-text-731a7de7 P2-Regular withtext\"><strong> [1] Weinstein, S.
